Gary Gets a “10” From Len

A full-day demo hosted by Gary Rance and sponsored by the AWGB to celebrate its 30th Anniversary was a fantastic success, culminating in an appreciative vote (Strictly Style) and a ”10” from Len.

Gary Rance, the quickest turner ever seen at the club, was invited to demonstrate and gave an enthralling, informative and, at times, humorous display, holding everyone's attention from the start. Gary even managed to complete seven individual pieces. (Some are shown below)

These comprised a humming top, the design of which dates back to the 1880s, and a tippy top that suddenly flips onto its head whilst continuing to spin. Even on these small items Gary remained positive and held everyone's interest.  Others included a pendant, an apple, a salt shaker and a curiosity that had most members stumped as to how it was made.

It was a fantastic event ending with a round of applause for Gary as well as the tea ladies for the day, Margaret and Jennie, who kept everyone refreshed throughout.
